Learn the practical skills and knowledge to create hand and machine made textiles, using a variety of of professional hand skills.
You will learn how to…

  1. How to create and experiment with craft ideas, learn to be a creative thinker using historical and modern approaches
  2. Learn textile construction, what a fabric type does, how it is constructed, why it is used
  3. Learn to use colour professionally with the colour wheel and apply colour techniques to your designs
  4. Develop skills in dying, textile manipulation and understanding lines, grains and explore texture

You will also complete design and research units as well as folder work to support your garments.

During the course you will:

  • Learn how to dye and manipulate textiles
  • recognise the characteristics of a range of fibres – natural and man-made and the basic fabrics made from them
  • prepare fabrics for cutting and stitching and make an accurate patterns
  • handle fabrics correctly during cutting, stitching and pressing
  • select pattern styles to compliment a variety of figure shapes
  • health and safety in the studio
  • understand the care requirements for the garments made

This course is taught on Fridays by Textile artist, Ruth Parkinson. You can use the whole day or attend mornings/afternoons. 30 hours for award
