Creative textiles 4 week course with Ruth Parkinson-Johns Starts Friday 3rd May

The first session will be dyeing and printing cloth to use. The second will be stitching this up to make the book cover. The 3rd session freemotion embroidery on aquafilm to make the focal point and 4th final session adding this to the cover, finishing off with making stitched cords for use as a page divider/bookmark or tie. Adding any further embellishment of hand embroidery or beads as required.

Sew Essentials Starts 2019 – See below for dates and to book

January 12th, 10:30 – 3:00pm, Sew Essentials: Pockets

Join Jenniffer Taylor, BBC Sewing Bee contestant, as she teaches the basics of making pockets. Always been fearful of slashing your garments to make pockets? Fear no more as Jenniffer Taylor takes you on a guided tour of how to make and add, basic pockets to garments.


February 23rd, 10:30 – 3:00,  Sew Essentials: Collars, Cuffs and Plackets

As part of Jenniffer Taylor’s Sew Essential’s classes, IDC is offering people the opportunity to learn all about Collars, Cuffs and Plackets. Jenniffer Taylor, BBC Sewing Bee contestant and TV demonstrator, will be showing you how to make those essential items that are part of clothing. In this 4 hour class you will learn how to construct and amend collars, cuffs and plackets


May 18th, 10:30 – 3:00, Sew Essentials: Buttonholes and Couture Finishing

The buttonhole is a major feature of clothing and yet is neglected by the big manufacturers. A well made buttonhole adds that touch of quality. Jenniffer Taylor will teach you several types of buttonhole using sewing machines. You will take home several samples to aid you in your own construction of buttonholes and clothing.


June 22nd, 10:30 – 3:00, Sew Essentials: Made to Measure

Jenniffer Taylor, BBC Sewing Bee contestant, will use her expertise to demonstrate how to measure yourself the way professionals do.

Learn about measuring the torso, how the measurements work together, what to look for and spot mistakes before pattern cutting. Essential skills used in the fashion and garment industry
