Work Placements

At IDC we can offer week long work placements. This is a great opportunity to experience part of the industry.

Previous work placement students have:

– Helped organise national and local fashion shows at the NEC Birmingham and the Artrix Bromsgrove

– Dressed backstage on the Designer Catwalk at the Clothes Show Live

– Learnt how to draft patterns and make toiles

– Been given an insight into how a textiles college runs

Work Experience Comments 2016:

“I enjoyed doing work experience with the IDC because it made me realize how much work is put into a catwalk show. It also helped to create contacts within the industry!”

Kira Foster, Bournville College

“Work experience dressing at the trade show has been brilliant and I really feel that I have learned something about myself through doing it.”

Megan Phillips, St Benedicts Catholic High School

“This year was the second time I have worked at the CHSI trade show as a model, adding to the many shows I have had the pleasure of helping with through Inkberrow Design Centre. The setup day which precedes the three day show, is always the most challenging, but this year was slightly different having only that day to learn the routines. Furthermore, getting up at 6am the next day was quite a lie-in compared to the half five start the next two days! The first show on Sunday to the traders was the most nerve wracking, but we got into it soon enough. The best part, I would say, is always the people that you get to know so well, especially when doing a total of 8 shows, in the space of 3 days. The atmosphere and adrenaline is unlike anything else and this is why I would recommend the show to anyone who wants a full-on, hands-on experience of the fashion industry, and is prepared to eat cream cake and do yoga backstage to keep energy levels high!”

Leah Norton, North Bromsgrove Sixth Form

“My work experience with IDC gave me a great insight into the way the busy world of fashion and design works. I was constantly offered useful advice and tips along the way by lovely people and was treated with pastries from Starbucks! Big thankyou to Brenda who brought me to the trade show and made it all happen!”

Erin Woodcock, Alcester Grammar Sixth Form
